The early history of the school

Vounargo High School, with secondary education institution classes, began operating in the existing building during the 1986-1987 school year.

From the beginning, its operation was associated with pioneering school activities aimed at opening the school to the local community and the formation of active citizens. In this context, from the very beginning, a School Cooperation established in our school, which took over the management of the canteen and the shop for the sale of school supplies. At the same time, the students -even today- cultivate and collect the olives of our school to finance their various actions.

Vounargo High School with secondary education institution classes was also one of the few schools that published a school newspaper in the 1980s, the famous ITHACA, which in 1989 won the first Student Print Award. At the same time, it undertook one of the first recycling programs in Greece, while informing the local community on issues of ecology and environmental education.

Its first director was the philologist Socrates Massias, who remained in this position until the school year 1991-92, when the above programs were interrupted.
